Color Pigments and Dispersions
BASF color pigments and dispersions impart bright, clean colors to automotive finishes, coatings, plastics and inks to enhance the performance and value of many end-use industrial and consumer products. This broad and diverse product family includes classic-, medium- and high-performance organic pigments, complex inorganic color pigments, pigment dispersions and universal colorants.
Organic pigments
BASF organic pigments include diarylide and sunglow yellows (suitable as organic replacements for lead chromates in traffic paints); rose maroons, rubine, toluidine, para, 2B, laked and naphthol reds; phthalo blues and greens; and carbazole violet. The company's renowned Rightfit™ azo pigments provide excellent value and precise performance in plastics, inks and industrial, architectural and specialty coatings. A number of Rightfit organic pigments even are FDA-approved for specific food industry applications.
Inorganic pigments
BASF's complex inorganic color pigments, or CICPs, are ideal for use in metal roofing, vinyl siding, mobile-home sheeting and building trim, as well as outside grills, furniture, plastic materials, residential and commercial appliances and equipment. They are extremely lightfast, resistant to temperature, chemicals (including acid and alkali) and long-term weathering, and are easy to disperse. For example, BASF's patented Meteor® and Meteor® Plus products, with their exceptionally high IR reflectance properties, are designed especially for applications where heat build-up is undesirable.
Color dispersions
BASF aqueous color dispersions, such as Aurasperse®, Aurasperse® II and H2Options™, are designed for in-plant tinting of water-borne and emulsion paints and coatings. They also are used in rubber latex, non-woven fabrics, paper coatings, lumber marking, artists' colors and many other coating applications. BASF Options™ universal machine colorants are used for in-store tinting of latex and alkyd architectural paints. These colorants are comparable to industry-standard universal colorants and offer superior compatibility across a wide range of conventional and lower-VOC trade sales paints.
