BASF ASP hydrous aluminosilicates are used as extenders and additives in the coatings, inks, adhesives, plastics, rubber and paint industries. They are available in a wide range of grades (see below) and offer many performance benefits, including excellent titanium dioxide extension, improved color, gloss control, dispersion, stain resistance and enamel holdout. For example, in adhesive applications, ASP functional extenders improve and speed wet tack, increase viscosity, speed drying and reduce costs. In inks, ASP products improve color development and holdout to prevent strikethrough and reduce costs.
ASP Grades
ASP 072: very fine particle size, platy, premium brightness grade made using Engelhard's patented Ultra-flotation process; for use in gloss and semi-gloss water-borne coatings.
ASP 101: very fine particle size, standard brightness, stearate-treated grade for use in lithographic ink applications requiring hydrophobicity.
ASP 102: very fine particle size, standard brightness grade with a neutral pH for use in water-borne semi-gloss coatings or rubber reinforcement.
ASP 170: very fine particle size, premium brightness grade made using Engelhard's patented Ultra-flotation process; for use in gloss, water- and solvent-borne and semi-gloss coatings , inks and many other industrial applications.
ASP 172: very fine particle size, premium brightness grade made using Engelhard's patented Ultra-flotation process; for use in water-borne gloss coatings.
ASP 200: very fine particle size, standard brightness grade for use in solvent and water-borne primers and topcoats, as well as industrial, coil, appliance and various undercoats. This is the most common grade used in electrodeposition automotive primers worldwide.
ASP 400P: coarse particle size, low brightness grade for use in glass reinforced thermoset systems where low resin demand, low shrinkage, controlled exotherm, crack resistance and good glass fiber dispersion are required, such as SMC and BMC compounds. This product also is used in adhesives to improve tack and in paints to improve barrier properties .
ASP 600: fine particle size, standard brightness grade for use in primers and gravure inks.
ASP 602: fine particle-size, standard brightness grade with neutral pH used in water-borne semi-gloss coatings and gravure ink applications where shot milling is available. This product also is used in rubber reinforcement applications.
ASP 672: fine particle size, premium brightness grade made using Engelhard's patented Ultra-flotation process; for use in water-borne semi-gloss coatings and textile coatings where high whiteness is desired.
ASP 900: medium particle size, standard brightness grade with an acid pH; for use in water-borne adhesives and agricultural carriers.
ASP NC: delaminated grade for good enamel holdout, stain resistance and washability water- or solvent-borne paint applications.
ASP NCS: fine particle size, highly delaminated grade for use in water-borne flat and eggshell architectural coatings.
ASP NC X-1: Engelhard ASP NC for use in water-borne coatings.
ASP Ultrafine: extremely fine particle size, premium brightness extender pigments used in high gloss, semi-gloss latex, alkyd-based enamels and water- and solvent-borne coatings.
ASP Ultrafine HD: lower cost, higher bulk density version of ASP Ultrafine; provides high gloss and good titanium dioxide extension in water-borne systems.
ASP RO: made using Engelhard's patented Ultra-flotation process to provide a very fine particle size with standard brightness and designed for use in industrial coatings and offset ink applications.
BUCA® : highly pulverized, very fine particle size, standard brightness product with a neutral pH specially designed for use in as a rubber reinforcement.
CATALPO® : fine particle size, standard brightness grade with low residue and neutral pH; designed for use in rubber applications.
